Learning to Love&Live Life Through DANCE!

When I was diagnosed with cancer, doctors told my parents it would be good for me to be in an extra-ciricular type activity, however sports was not an options because I was not to be involved in any 'contact' sport or activity...which still holds today. Granted I slip up a little bit with my partner dancing and wrestling with the little kidos here and there, but other than that I really am cautious:) Anyhow, the decision was made that dance was going to be my best outlet. I began dancing at Duke City STARS in Albuquerque, NM when I was 5 years old! It became a place of love, friendship, and comfort for me and my family during that rough time. For me it was a place I could go and forget about my illness and get motivated for life in general. It was another place I felt at 'home' besides the hospital. I lost all my hair from the Chemo-therapy while I attended STARS and it was amazing to watch how all the girls still embraced me as a team member even though I was different! I will be forever grateful! It has impacted me in ways NO ONE will ever be able to grasp:) My teachers/Directors/friends at STARS stuck that whole journey out with us and we were all able to celebrate together when it was done! I strongly believe that I HAD to have cancer in order to find my love of dance, which has stuck with me even today. I don't even want to imagine who I'd be without these many experiences...
